Lewis Edward Cooley

Lewis E. Cooley, 79, of Simpsonville, husband of Dorothy Hensley Cooley, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 while at home surrounded by his family.

Born in Clinton, SC, he was a son of the late Lewis David & Louise Gresham Cooley, and the grandson of the late Oscar & Nan Greer Gresham.

In addition to his wife, Dot, Mr. Cooley is survived by their son, Lewis Brian Cooley and his wife, Chris, of Simpsonville; step-grandchildren, Patrick Cox (Ashlee) of Fountain Inn, Lindsey Sill (Scott) of Simpsonville, and Nicholas Cox (Wimberly) of Fountain Inn; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Dylan, Marzelleigh-Ann, Lilla, and Charlie; brothers, John Douglas Cooley (Molly) of Waterloo, and Leon Cooley (Carole) of Fountain Inn; and a sister, Nancy Brown also of Fountain Inn.

He was preceded in death by four half-brothers, Marvin, Lloyd, Oscar and Roy Cooley; and a special niece, Rebecca Cooley Peden.

Mr. Cooley was a long-time member and Sunday School teacher of Simpsonville First Baptist Church and current member of Holly Ridge Baptist Church. Mr. Cooley served in the United States Army Reserves and was Honorably Discharged as a Staff Sergeant. Lewis retired from Duke Energy after thirty-five years of service. He immediately began his own consulting company, Advanced Design Systems. Lewis was an Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) instructor and taught classes throughout the Southeast. He was most proud of the relationships he built within Duke Energy, the HVAC and Foam Insulation industries. He was a lifetime member of Refrigeration Services Engineering Society (RSES) and the Simpsonville Masonic Lodge # 311 AFM.

In 1993 Lewis received a heart transplant at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, GA. He enjoyed becoming friends with the doctors and staff of the Emory Transplant Team. He also enjoyed serving for many years on the SC Donate Life Executive Board. His goal was to help share awareness of organ donation.

Calling Hours were held on Thursday, April 16, at Heritage Funeral Home. A private graveside service was held in Graceland East Memorial Park.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Holly Ridge Baptist Church, 260 Adams Mill Road, Simpsonville, SC 29681. A Live Video Feed of the service will be available at: www.Hollyridge.net

Out of respect for everyone attending, the family and funeral home requests that everyone wear a mask and practice “social distancing.”

Dot, Brian Chris, Leon,And Doug(John) Nancy. I was so sad to hear that my lifetime friend had made his final stand here on this earthly home. But my heart was filled with joy ,knowing that he is now resting in the arms of Jesus. He fought a good battle, and his rewards are being given at last. There was not a better person that I have known for so many years, not one time that our paths crossed that he did not have a smile and a kind word to say. During the time that he was in a great deal of pain, he would always say, ” oh I feel pretty good for an old Man”. Well we all know that he will feel pretty “good now for a long time “. To the family, may God make smooth the path before you, in the trying days and months ahead. God will hold you fast in His hands. The heartaches will be comforted , by the wonderful memories that you will always cherish . I along with many others will miss Lewis. RIP, my christian friend.
Ray Brown, and daughter Lorraine Greene, ” say hello to Barbara ,who was also your friend.

My dearest Dot, Waited until today to watch Lewis’ video…and from the first picture, his kindness and sweetness poured over my screen. His heart may have had trouble functioning, but it certainly continued to get across every emotion and ounce of love our Heavenly Father had ever put there. What a gift you had! Job well done Brother Lewis. And a wonderful example of what a human being should be for the rest of us until our day arrives for “our trip”!
I love you my sweet friend, and my soul breaks for you. I wish I could take the hurt away…but I can only pray for comfort for you…I will do anything for you, just reach .
