Virginia Ruth O’Neal, 94, widow of James Edward O’Neal, passed away on February 5, 2021 in Simpsonville, SC. She was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on September 10, 1926 the daughter of the late Percy V. Lock and Ruth S. Lock.

She worked as a secretary in the Trust Department of Third National Bank of Springfield, Massachusetts. She graduated from Bob Jones University in 1948 with a B.S. in Business Administration. She then became a church secretary and soloist for Ganson Street Baptist Church in Jackson, Michigan where she met her beloved Jim and was married in 1952. They celebrated sixty years of marriage.

Virginia was active with the church choir and she taught piano lessons for over 25 years. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and being involved with Bible Study Fellowship. 

After retirement, Virginia and Jim moved to Simpsonville, SC and were members of Calvary Baptist Church, Simpsonville, SC. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Betty (Ken) Brooks, of Blandford, Massachusetts. 

She is survived by her two children, Craig O’Neal (Karen) of Greer, SC and Linda Kirsop (Dan) of Greenville, SC; 8 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren; and her sister, Joyce Sargent, of Dallas TX. 

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robert Graziano officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

The service will be available through a live stream link the day of the service.

Mrs. O’Neal will be laid to rest with Mr. O’Neal during a private committal service for the family in M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

  • I just loved Aunt Ginny…she was such a remarkable lady. My sincere thoughts & prayers to Craig & Karen, Linda & Dan, their children and her many friends. I know she will be missed…but how exciting for her that she gets to reunite with Uncle Jim and meet her Lord & Savior!
