Steven Thomas Link

Steven Thomas Link, 55, husband of Suzette Link, of Fountain Inn, passed away at home on December 2, 2022. Born on November 15, 1967, in Warner Robins, Georgia, to Penny Shinkle Link and the late Ronald L. Link.

Steve was passionate about his family, his faith in God, and his country. He sought to find the humor in every situation and loved to make the people around him laugh. He was a true patriot and proudly served in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant in just six years. He had a deep appreciation of music and film; he loved Star Wars, playing the drums, and listening to Rush and Metallica. After leaving the USAF, he began a 25-year career in the machine tool industry. He felt he was called to serve and protect his community and did this by serving on the security team at his church. He was a certified SLED security officer and instructor. He was a gun enthusiast and was proud to dedicate his time to teach others gun safety. Steve was a strong leader, an excellent provider, and a loyal friend. The pain of his passing will be deeply felt by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by four children, Caroline Link, Lauren Link, Joshua Link, and Chandler Gentry; and eleven nieces and nephews, Brianna Roper (Jacob), Ashlynn Link, Mikayla Neal (Trevor), Danielle Link, Michael Link, Braden Link, Matthew Gentry, Kanen Gentry (Julia), Cody Gentry (Madeline), Becki Lightsey and Sterling Smith.

In addition to his father, he is proceeded in death by his twin brother, Michael E. Link.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at 11:00 am at Faith Renewed Church, 505 S Main St, Mauldin, SC 29662. The Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 pm. Interment will be at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 pm.

Steve was an amazing man. We had the pleasure of being his next door neighbors for the past few years. Some of our fondest memories consisted of cooking out on his Green Egg, lots of laughter, accompanied by many wild stories. Steve even taught us the saying, “it’s slap your momma good!” He will be greatly missed. We’re so honored to have known him. Rest in peace, dear friend.

I worked with Steve for about 20 years, he was a great friend and was really like a brother to me. We traveled all over the place working on machines and meeting so many people along the way. There are so many stories from all of the years that always make everyone laugh. Steve was a great person and he will be missed by so many.

Suzette, my heart was so broken to hear this. Steve was my security most Monday mornings and we became good buddies. I loved your husband and will miss him terribly. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your kids, who Steve spoke of often.

  • Suzette, When I heard the news today of Steve’s passing I was shocked! I met Steve years ago when we played together in the Redemption Band. Though we all have gone different ways through the years, there were so many times our paths crossed and he always went out of his way to connect us with people he was involved with to introduce us. Steve and you as well, have always held a special place in our hearts, and we will be keeping you covered in our prayers. Dr. Paul and Karyl Gaehring

    Hi Suzette,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I first met Steve, over 15 years ago, while working for OKK. Very quickly after we developed a good friendship and remained in touch even after our careers took us in different directions. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
