She was like a mother to me. Her and JJ provided me and three other Marines with a home, many great meals, a listening ear, a loving, yet sometimes stern voice, patched a few minor wounds, and even threatened to cause a few a couple of times. She provided many laughs, and many words of advice. If you needed her or JJ, best believe they would be there. She was open and honest. She wasn’t afraid to tell you when you were wrong, and had your back when you were right. Oh the hilarious stories I could tell. Yet the times I most cherish were just sitting on the boat talking. It didn’t really matter if the fish were biting. But if they were, and it was a nice one, EVERYBODY on the lake knew she had a fish on the line. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She will be missed, but she will live on in my mind and heart. Love you Mom. I hope you knew the impact you had on us all. Prayers for Poppa, Brooke, and Mindi. Love, Ed Hazel

Well said Ed. I miss you already. Love and respect all that you have given to me in my life. And yes to the 4 marines that you and JJ took in as sons. My heart is breaking inside and the world is a different place today than it was yesterday. To my adopted family I love you guys and you should know that. To my brothers and 2 little sisters my heart breaks for you. JJ I don’t have the words that could begin to touch your grief. Know that you are loved and you have people you can talk to. I love you momma J. Always and forever. Thank you for keeping us Gentleman. Love, Chuck Gravatt

She was I one of the strongest, most wonderful women that ever walked this earth. My bag is still packed on the floor, prepared to go see her face, hug her, kiss her cheek and tell her one more time just how much I love her. But I’m too late. Too late to see her face or hug her or kiss her cheek. But I thank God I’ll forever still be able to tell her how much I love her! And feel the love she had for me. The sound of her laughter echoes in my ears. And the memories with her are forever in my heart. She was my great-aunt but more like my second mother, second grandmother and best friend all rolled into one.
Oh I’m gonna miss your phone calls just to vent or get something off your chest but be prepared for me to still vent to you and ask for guidance as much as I always have.
