Roosevelt Hill Jr.

Roosevelt Hill Jr., 82, of Simpsonville, SC, Husband of Betty Elizabeth Hill, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. Born in Laurens, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Roosevelt Hill, Sr. and Janie Cook Hill.

He was raised in a large and loving family alongside his nine siblings, where strong values of faith, hard work, and togetherness were instilled early in life.

He graduated from Sanders High School and continued his pursuit of education by earning a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska.

In 1964, he married Betty Hill in New York City. That same year, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force, where he served honorably until 1974.

Following his military service, he returned to Upstate South Carolina, where he dedicated many years as a hardworking and dependable provider. He was employed by several companies throughout his career, including Cryovac, Eastern Airlines, and Roadway Express, from which he eventually retired.

Together, he and his wife built a strong and nurturing family. He was a devoted husband and a proud father to four daughters: Stephanie Hill, Donna Cain, Donnell Hill, and Karena Hill. He was also a loving grandfather and great-grandfather, cherishing time spent with his family above all else.

A man of deep faith, he loved reading the Bible and lived a life rooted in service to others. He quietly gave back through acts of kindness, community involvement, and support of various charitable causes. He was known for his willingness to help others, his steady presence, and his generous spirit.

He took great pride in his home, especially in maintaining his yard, which reflected his care and attention to detail. In his retirement, he truly embraced life on his own terms—enjoying the freedom to pursue his interests and passions. He remained actively engaged in his community, serving on his high school reunion committee and as a dedicated member of the family reunion committee. He spent countless hours researching historical records, becoming a passionate advocate for preserving family history and legacy.

He will be deeply missed by his family and by the many lives he touched throughout the years.

In addition to his wife, Roosevelt is survived by his four children, Stephanie Hill, Donell Hill, Donna Cain (Clarence), and Karena Hill; four grandchildren Brandon Cain, Bryant Cain (Jonnasia), Zoey Hill, and Karessa Hill; two great grandchildren, Aniyah Cain and Ivy Cain; and four siblings.

In short, Mr. Hill was a great man, husband, and father. He was a fixture in our Pollard Road neighborhood. I grew up next door to him, and we all respected him greatly.

He and Mrs. Hill raised 4 great daughters.

Mr. Hill helped us throughout the years in practical ways, even letting us use golf clubs when he noticed we were playing golf in our yard using bicycle handles!

He even gave a great speech about my grandmother during her funeral 3 years ago.

To Mrs. Hill, Stephanie, Donna, Donnell, and Karena: I’m so sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

    We love ya’ll.

I was saddened to hear of Roosevelt’s passing. I thought of him every time I passed his home and admired his beautiful yard. He is truly one of the kindest men I have ever known! I knew Roosevelt from the nursing home where his brother, Theodore, was a resident. He was always so pleasant and so dedicated to his brother and his care. I always enjoyed it when I was able to spend a few minutes with him. I know he will be missed by so many.
