Robert Gerald Ayers

Gerald “Big G” Ayers, 71, of Simpsonville, husband of Linda Ayers, loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Saturday, October 23, 2021.

Born in Bennettsville, he was a son of the late James “JB” Burton & Annie Elizabeth O’Tuel Ayers, Jr. Mr. Ayers was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Simpsonville. He served our country in the United States Marine Corps. He was a long-time member of the Marlboro County Rescue Squad, former Sunday School teacher and an avid sports fan.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Ayers is survived by their son, Jeffrey Todd Ayers and his wife, Valerie, of Clemson; and one sister, Margaret Ayers Thompson and her husband, Jimmy, of Lexington.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, David Burton Ayers and James Edward Ayers, Sr.

A Memorial Service will be held at Temple Baptist Church on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Brett Aiken officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

The family requests that memorials be made to: Temple Baptist Church building fund or Caris Hospice, 111 Smith Hines Rd., Greenville SC, 29607.

    I’m so sad to hear of Gerald passing away. I remember him from high school and I certainly considered him a friend. May our Heavenly Father comfort you.

      Linda and Jeff…much love to you. I never saw Big G when he wasn’t smiling. Such a good man. I have sweet memories of him, and I hope your memories will comfort you now and in the days ahead.
