Pansy Carolyn Edwards

With a mixture of sorrow and joy, the family of Pansy Edwards announces her passing from this world into eternal life in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Pansy suffered a rapid decline after an accidental fall in her home and passed away quietly on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.

Pansy will be lovingly remembered by her husband Kenneth of Fountain Inn, SC; son Wendall (Margaret) of Charleston, SC; daughter Terrie (Dan) Zeller of Simpsonville, SC; son David (Janice) of Columbia, SC; and son Matthew (Kelly) of Kansas City, MO. She will also be remembered by 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Jim Downing and predeceased by siblings Warren Downing, Robert Downing, Larry Downing, and Shirley Willard.

A funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 PM, June 23, 2018, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Greenville, SC, led by Pastor Mark Minnick. Interment will follow the service at Cannon Memorial Park in Fountain Inn, SC. The family will receive friends starting at 12:00 PM at the church prior to the service.

Pansy was born in Paducah, Kentucky in 1938. On the day of her birth, she was visited by her mother’s good friend Tennessee Edwards and her two-year-old son, Kenneth. After her family lived for several years in West Plains, Missouri, the family moved back to Paducah where she again met, fell in love with, and married Kenneth in 1956.

Ken and Pansy lived and raised their family of four children in Paducah where they built several houses, Pansy swinging a hammer along with Ken long into the hours of the night. Realizing a desire to obtain a stable Christian education for their children, Ken and Pan moved the family to rural Fountain Inn so that their children could attend Southside Christian School and Bob Jones University. Upon arrival in Fountain Inn, Ken and Pansy again worked together to build the beautiful home where they have lived ever since. For several years, Pansy applied her considerable talents as a seamstress while working in the costume department at Bob Jones University.

Pansy’s love for music led her to see to it that her four children all learned to play the piano where they each excelled. Her love of the outdoors led to an avid interest in bicycling around the country roads near their home. Her love for the family pool led to frequent midnight swims to cool off after a long day under the heat of the South Carolina sun.

Ken and Pansy began to attend Mount Calvary Baptist Church in the early 1990’s. With a desire to serve in the church, they operated the tape ministry for many years and mailed tens of thousands of sermon tapes to missionaries and others around the world. Pansy will long be remembered by many in the Greenville area as a gracious hostess and loving, giving servant of the Lord.

A fitting tribute to an awesome lady! When I began attending Mt Calvary in the late 90’s she shepherded me through many older sermon series to aid in my Christian growth. Her memory of prior series was uncanny. Had the privilege of being in their home several times for Ken’s awesome soup! She will be missed.

Dear Edwards Family: Please accept my deepest sympathy for the family and friends of Pansy. We will never get used to losing our loved ones in death because as Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, we were created with everlasting life in view. but may you find comfort in knowing that Almighty God has promised that soon he will swallow up death forever along with the pain that it brings. (Isaiah 25:8) God has also promised that he will return Pansy to you as it says at John 5:28,29 and also Psalms 37:29. You can also learn more about what happens when a loved one dies at JW.org.
    Sincerely,
    Susan
