Lee Alfred “Shorty” Vaughn

“Shorty” Vaughn, 96, of Simpsonville, husband of Betty Roberts Vaughn, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 10, 2022.

Born in Simpsonville, Mr. Vaughn was the son of the late Toy Hyson & Mattie Lou Barbrey Vaughn. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and served our country during WWII in the United States Army.

In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by their daughter, Rene Smith, and her husband, Walt, of Conway.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Weldon E. Vaughn; and a sister, Virginia Hipps.

A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Bethel United Methodist Church, 500 Holland Rd, Simpsonville. The family will receive friends following the service.  

Interment will be private for the family in Graceland East Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to: Shriners Childrens’ Hospital, 950 W. Faris Rd, Greenville, SC 29605.

    Betty & Rene, I am sorry to hear of Shorty’s passing. Prayers for you both, in this sad time. I still live in the house, Shorty built, for me in 1966! He was one of the best Brick Masons, in this area.

    My Daddy owned Ed Smith Auto Sales and he rented the property from Shorty. He and Dad would sit at the desk and just talk for hours. Very kind and a good man and was so respectful to
    My Dad always and me.

    Betty i am so sorry to hear and learn about “Shorty”.. Jack and I never hear about anyone passing as we do not take the paper and don’t get out much. I miss seeing you Betty and hope you and your family will be fine in the coming days. God Bless!!!

    Don’t get paper.
    He built our house along with Mr. Jones in 1970, still here.
    So sorry. We would pass by and wonder how you were.
    He was a good man, I lived across from Tom and Virginia growing up.

    Geri Elizabeth Hamilton. It is with much sadness I have just learned of your husband and fathers death. He was my father’s dearest friend and trusted business partner.
