James C. Shelton

James “Jimmy” Curtis Shelton, 75, of Fountain Inn, SC, husband of Mary Carlotta Shelton, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025, after a short illness. Born in Simpsonville, SC, he was a son of the late Wayne and L. Beatrice Shelton.

A seventeen-year veteran of the United States Army and South Carolina National Guard, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class, he valued his service highly and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. In addition to serving his country, Jimmy started his career and retired at the BI-LO Distribution Center, where he worked in various positions over his 30+ years ranging from mechanic, dispatcher and truck driver.

Jimmy loved classic cars and motors and spent his retirement working on and enjoying his Corvette. During his summers, many weekends were spent camping with family and friends. He also played guitar and spent time writing poetry and songs.

In addition to his wife, James is survived by his children, Terry Shelton, Misty Shelton Cheney (Jay), and Angela Ostermeir (Travis); six grandchildren, Lauren Rhodes (Brad), Molly Shelton Corneau (Zachary), James Cheney, Justin Ostermeir, Elizabeth Ostermeir, and Karlee Meek (Dylan); six great grandchildren, Lydia Corneau, Zachary Corneau, Mason Meek, Maddie Meek, Olivia Ostermeir, and Rhett Ostermeir; and lifelong friends, Tammie and Kent Lundstrom.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosemary Shelton; granddaughter, Natalie Cheney; and siblings, Carol Davis, Ray Shelton, Roy “Chigger” Shelton, and Jackie Shelton.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Cannon-Byrd Funeral Home- Fountain Inn; 1150 N. Main St, Fountain Inn, SC. Interment will follow in Cannon-Byrd Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jimmy’s memory to your local VA Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.

    Misty, Jay, James, and family, I’m so very sorry for the loss of your father and grandfather. He sounds like a wonderful man and I’m sure he has left you with beautiful memories to treasure. He definitely raised an outstanding daughter! God bless all of you, Bridget Huber
