After being friends for over 40 years, my family and I are deeply saddened by passing of Alton. Some of the things I will miss the most are the garage meetings talking about local history and all of his past experiences. All of the neighbors passing by and joining in on all the conversations made it really special for me. I was always so impressed and proud of his service to our country knowing that he made his own mark in history. I have always admired the generation before me and their commitment to our country during WWII. Our condolences to the family but especially to Helen, as after 70 years of marriage I know will make it very difficult for her. As a good Christian man his counsel to me and my family will always be remembered.

We want to offer our sympathy to all of Mr. Weathers’ family. He was such a fine and godly man. As pastor of First Baptist Church Fountain Inn for almost 26 years, Mike had the privilege of serving in many funerals with Mr. Alton over the years.

We were interested to read in Mr. Alton’s obituary that he served at Omaha Beach. Mike’s father was in the navy and served at Utah Beach during the D-day Invasion on a landing craft. The men of their generation served our country honorably and we owe them a great debt that can never be repaid.

We are thinking of you and praying for your family.

    Much love,
    Mike and Iris Bearden
