George Walter Lunn, Sr

George Walter Lunn, Sr, 104, of Greer, passed away peacefully at home on December 2, 2021. Born in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Frank F. and Dorothy Rueschman Lunn.

During high school at Coraopolis High, Mr. Lunn was nicknamed CHEECH. He lettered in football all 4 years. George served 30 years on the Pennsylvania & Lake Erie and New York Central railroad. During W.W. II he was asked to remain on the RR to move troops and supplies for the war effort. President FDR came and thanked him for his service and shook his hand.

George was the longest Prostate cancer survivor of 52 years. He spoke to men at the Greenville Chapter of Us TOO, a Prostate Cancer education and support organization. He taught Sunday School as well as being a volunteer Fireman. He owned the Maple Dell with his wife Gladys, which was like McDonalds today. Frozen custard anyone?, only 10 cents a cone.

George is survived by two sons, George Lunn, Jr and his wife, Evelyn, of El Cajon, CA, and David Lunn and his wife of Cheryl, of Greer; five grandchildren, Josh, Matt, Chris and his wife, Candy, Dan and his wife Liesel, and Deborah and her husband, Mike Eubanks; eight great grandchildren, Cameron and his wife, Vanessa, Alexis, Max, Hannah, Hailey, Zach, Jacob, and Jeremiah; three great-great grands, Lincoln, August, and Carson; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Ebert Lunn; his second wife, Ruth Porter Lunn, a granddaughter, Bonnie Jean Lunn; a sister, Dorothy Drennen; and three brothers, Frank Lunn, Bob Lunn, and Charles Lunn.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Grace Baptist Church of Taylors, 5020 Old Spartanburg Road, Taylors, SC 29687. The Service will be in the Main Sanctuary beginning at 10:30 AM. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the fellowship hall.

    Mr. George was and still is an inspiration. What a blessing to his family and to the world! He now enjoys the eternal joy of being with our Lord. God bless his wonderful family!

  • George Lunn was a good man but most of all he was even a better Christian man. He will be missed but not forgotten.

    Oh how I loved Mr. Lunn and his wonderful stories. He and Mrs. Ruth drove 1.5 hours to see me get married 23 years ago. I am so sorry for the family’s loss but rejoice in Heaven’s gain of such a fine man.

  • I am truly sorry about the loss of Mr. George he was one of my first customers when i started working at the bank and he was always such a joy. I remember going to visit him and sweet Mrs. Ruthie “his Ruthie” I am praying for yall in the weeks to come he was truly a special young man.
