George Alvin White
George Alvin White, 75, of Florence, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 21, 2023. He was a son of the late John Alvin and Helen Stewart White.
He is survived by a son, Hunter White of Lexington; a daughter, Georgia Collins (Jonah) of Florence; and a sister, Anita White of Simpsonville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy White and Kenneth White.
George was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, bird watching, and just being outdoors; however, his favorite outdoor activity was fishing. An accomplished fisherman, George enjoyed nothing more than being on the water with his friends and family. In addition to fishing, his favorite pastime was spending time cooking with his children. Evening dinners at George’s house were not a meal; they were a social event often cooking the very fish caught by him and his kids on a fishing trip. His quick wit and humorous stories would keep everyone entertained for hours.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 25, 2023, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home, Simpsonville. A graveside service will follow in the Simpsonville City Cemetery.

Anita, I could not make the trip on Saturday but you and the children have been in my thoughts and prayers. As you know George and I started 1st grade together in Simpsonville and all your family was a part of my growing up memories. I recently sent a picture to George( after knowing of his illiness) of him, Dolly and David Chandler and myself all dressed up” For the Dance” with hopes that he would get a little smile. My fond memories of the parties we had at each others home are the best.
I am so sorry for your loss and will continue to pray for the family.

Hunter & Georgia. I was so sad to read that your daddy had died. I’m so sorry Bill and I were unable to attend his funeral. I had broken my hip and am now recovering from it and Bill is completely blind in one eye and has very poor vision in the other one so he no longer drives. I always thought so much of George. It’s been a while back but I had the good fortune of running into him at the Food Lion. We had such a good conversation. He & Bill use to go fishing all the time and had the best time. Your daddy couldn’t understand why Bill quit going. He thought it was something he had done. Bill had gotten where he never went any where after he retired. The P.O. Gang had a get together at a restaurant several months ago & Bill was planning to go. He said I’ll get to see my old friend George. When it came time to go, he changed his mind & wouldn’t go. When he saw that George had died he was so upset with himself for not going. I would really love to talk to you both but have no way to contact you. I tried your home phone Hunter but it was no longer in service. My daughter lives in Lexington. I’d love to get to see you Hunter. I have a great picture of you, Ashley, your daddy & Bill. I believe it was a picture taken one day when y’all went fishing. It’s a really wonderful picture you & Georgia would love to have.
