Dorothy (Dot) Hensley Cooley
Dorothy (Dot) Hensley Cooley, 73, of Simpsonville, widow of Lewis E. Cooley, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 10, 2022.
Born in Greenville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Clyde H. and Grace Page Hensley.
Dot is survived by her son, Lewis Brian Cooley and his wife, Chris, of Simpsonville; step-grandchildren, Patrick Cox (Ashlee) of Fountain Inn, Lindsey Sill (Scott) of Simpsonville, and Nicholas Cox (Wimberly) of Fountain Inn; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Dylan, Marzelleigh-Ann, Lilla, Charlie, Joel, and Annie; and two sisters, Kathryn Hensley and Etrulia Redrick (Russ).
In addition to her husband and parents, Dot was preceded in death by her brother, Clyde H. Hensley, Jr., three half-brothers, Terry, Leo, and Roy Hensley; and a half-sister, Irene Prather.
Dot was a long-time member of Simpsonville First Baptist Church and current member of Holly Ridge Baptist Church. After her retirement from Cryovac, she became a very active member of the Snow Campaign Chapter of The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She was currently serving as Second Vice Regent of her chapter and Chair of the Good Citizens Committee for the state. She previously served as chapter Regent, Treasurer, and Registrar.
Calling Hours will be on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at Heritage Funeral Home from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022, at 11:00 am at Holly Ridge Baptist Church, 260 Adams Mill Road, Simpsonville, SC 29681. A private burial for the family will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greenville County Cancer Society, 113 Mills Avenue, Greenville, SC 29605.

Brian, we’re so sorry to hear about your mom, as you know your parents were dear friends & you, Elaine & Jennifer played together often when you all were small. So many wonderful memories. You were blessed with great parents.

Brian, what a shock to learn of Dot’s passing. Please know that you all are in my prayers. You mom and dad were two very special people in many of our lives and now they are back together after a brief separation. Thanks be to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ we shall meet again.

The Cooley and the Hensley families, and I grew up together in Fountain Inn and Simpsonville. We have been friends a very long time. I was so sad to hear that Dot had left this earthly home. However she is now in a far better home. I know the sorry that you have, but also have the joy that she and Lewis are now together again. Now it our hope to see them once more ,so sweet day.. So sorry to hear about the death of your sister Dot Cooley. We have spoken many times over the years about her. Knowing her, there is a poem that I feel she would recite to us at this moment. “When you come to my grave, do not weep I am not here. I do not sleep. I am with the birds flying above looking down on each of you with all my love. And now that it has come to our last goodbye, I want you to smile and look high to the sky. Smile, remembering all our happy times. Do not cry, smile as you remember me.”
