Donald R. Stone Sr.

Donald Rudolph Stone Sr., 84, of Simpsonville, SC, husband of Cathey J. Stone, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025. Born in Savannah, GA, he was a son of the late Rudolph Charles and Lois Kelley Stone.

After graduating high school, Donnie started his career with his 1st job, working with Greenville Concrete, becoming a foreman at only 18 years old. After 7 years, he then went to work at B F Shaw. Donnie was quickly recognized for his intelligence and work ethics and worked his way to Plant Manager and had a successful career there until he retired in 1998.

Donnie was a devoted husband for 62 years in which he enjoyed riding in their convertible with his wife, Cathey, as well as watching nature shows together.

Prior to grandchildren, Donnie liked to build things. He even built a 1929 Mercedes and he built a boat.

His passions were family, his wife, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, spending time at the lake house, (where his favorite nap was in the hammock), and fishing. Donnie loved teaching the grandkids how to fish, from how to cast a seine net (without taking out their teeth), the best places to catch bait fish, bait their own hook, and how to clean fish.

Donnie’s favorite mottos were: Donnie’s gone fishin’ and Donnie’s taking a nap.

In addition to his wife, Donnie is survived by a daughter, Laura Suzanne Stone-Bolden (George); five grandchildren, Carol Nicole Stone-Nelson (Shane), April Noel Stone-Mucci (Reggie), Jessica Elaine Stone-Seawright (Timmy), Brian Austin Powell (Stephanie Ann), and Cortney Summer Powell-Holloway (Brandon); and five great-grandchildren, Blayne Isiah Stone, Layla Claire Seawright, Hagen Stone Holloway, Rowan Robert Holloway, and Lakelyn Annalise Powell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Donald Rudolph Stone Jr., and a brother, Kenneth Jessie Stone.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Cannon-Byrd Funeral Home; 1150 N. Main St., Fountain Inn, SC 29644. Interment will follow in Cannon-Byrd Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends starting at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
