Adeline Blegen

Adeline Ruth Blegen passed away on March 16, 2021, at 94.

She was born in Minnesota on January 26, 1927.

After high school in Minneapolis she worked as a secretary at the University

of Minnesota. There she met Minnerd Blegen, a WWII veteran and engineering student. They married on June 18, 1949. Their first home was a small apartment on the south side of Chicago, where her husband worked for Link Belt Co. Job transfers took them to Minneapolis, Houston, and Lansdale, PA. They lived for a brief time in Sao Paulo, Brazil, before settling into Simpsonville, S.C.

Adeline enjoyed traveling. The couple planned yearly family vacations across much of the U.S., four young children and a pop-up camper in tow. In later years they continued to travel, including a memorable trip to Europe for the 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, in which her husband had served.

Adeline made friends easily and enjoyed their company throughout her life. She dedicated herself to the career of raising her four kids and managing their home. A woman of strong opinions and a strong faith, Adeline was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Mauldin, S.C., where she contributed countless hours sewing quilts for donation in third world countries.

Adeline was preceded in death by her husband Minnerd Blegen and an infant daughter, Ruth.

She is survived by four children: Daniel, Philip, John, and Barbara (Kasmer); 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 2pm Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Graceland East Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to, Messiah Lutheran Church, 1100 Log Shoals Road, Mauldin, SC 29662
