Ret. M Sgt Gettys McLamer Smith

Ret. M Sgt Gettys M. Smith, 90, of Simpsonville, husband of Hazel A. Smith, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 while at home surrounded by his family.

Born in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late Will F. Smith and Mattie Sherbert Smith. A member of Temple Baptist Church, Mr. Smith retired from the U.S. Air Force and later from Dow Chemical.

In addition to his wife, Hazel, he is survived by five sons, Mike (Teresa), Ken (Cindy), Steve (Gail), Roger (Cathy), and Stanley (Kay); two step-sons, Bobby Langley (Cindy), and John Langley (Tracy); one brother, Jim T. Smith; nineteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Smith; and four brothers, Sam, Will Jr, Clifton, and Clarence Smith.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 2:30 PM at Temple Baptist Church with Pastor Brett Aiken & Pastor William Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Cannon Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends starting at 1:00 PM at the church prior to the service.
