Mary Carolyn Smith
Mary Carolyn Smith, 89 of Fountain Inn, wife of the late John T. Smith, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 9, 2026.
She was born September 9, 1936, in New Castle, Pennsylvania. She was the oldest daughter of 8 children of the late Anthony and Angelica Amabile.
At the age of 14, she became a nun and served for 17 years. During this time, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Fordham University in NY. She became a teacher and also tutored children in literature and writing for many years. She was always friendly and loved sharing her life stories with people she would meet.
She is survived by her sons John Thompson, Chris Thompson and daughter-in-law Robbi Thompson, and her 5 grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Cannon-Byrd Memorial Park in Fountain Inn.
