Lottie W. McCowan

Lottie McCowan was born on July 10, 1930 in Gable South Carolina to parents O.S. Woods and Nettie Lynch Woods. She passed peacefully on March 4, 2025 after enduring a long illness.

Lottie graduated from Florence high school and attended Columbia college for two years before transferring and graduating from Furman University in 1959.

She married the late Carl Godfrey Jr with whom she had three children: Carl Godfrey III,Bradley W Godfrey and Gaye Godfrey Watson.

Lottie married again to the late William McCowan.

She was beloved and respected by all who knew her as a friend, caregiver and mother. After retiring from a successful career in real estate, she devoted herself to taking care of family and performing extensive volunteer service for the community.

A lifelong member of the Presbyterian church and volunteer she served as the chairwoman for a disabled children’s clinic that served four counties.

She volunteered as a school room mother at her local elementary school for six years in Jacksonville Fla.

She also volunteered at the Bargin Box charity store in Hilton Head Island for eight years and also at her church’s soup kitchen in Greenwood South Carolina.

Lottie is survived by her son Brad Godfrey, her grandson William Watson, Her two great grandchildren Henry and Margret Watson and her two stepchildren Kelli Leblanc and  her husband Joel Leblanc, and Christine Crist and her husband Earl Crist.

No Funeral Service is planned and she is to be buried in a family plot in Florence S.C.

Her family asks that instead of flowers to please make an offering in her name to the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Greenville S.C.
