Larry A. Domagalski

After a sustained period of illness, Larry Domagalski (“Mr. D”) went home to his Lord and Savior on May 28, 2022.  While we mourn the loss, we rejoice as “precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Psalm 116:15

Born on August 2, 1941, to Polish immigrants in Wyandotte, Michigan, Larry’s life exemplified service to his country, in both the United States Air Force and his 27 ½ year career with the Los Angeles Police Department.  His service in law enforcement included a wide variety of assignments ranging from patrol, Vice & Criminal Investigation, Youth Programs, D.A.R.E, Organized Crime, and, notably, the co-founding of the world’s first Sexually Exploited Child Crimes Unit.  This latter program formed the foundation for all local and national units, as well as many foreign units, investigating or dealing with sexually exploited children.

But his passion for the lost and their need for the Gospel would be the ongoing refrain of his life since his conversion to Christ in 1984.  Consistent with this passion, he trained and led door-to-door field teams in Evangelism Explosion.  He also trained in Fundamentals of the Christian Faith and Biblical (Nouthetic) Counseling.  Additionally, his love for the local church was exemplified in his providing select personnel security at Grace Community Church to John MacArthur, serving as Ruling Elder in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, and designing and implementing a church-wide library at Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church.  In these settings, he would often be found demonstrating the ‘Ticket to Heaven’ (evangelistic tool), to children of all ages, where he ever always pointed to the Gospel and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Larry is survived by his wife, Valerie Domagalski, his sister, Jean Orlando, and his three sons: Michael (Sherri), David, and Joshua (Hanae) Domagalski.  Additionally, he is survived by 4 grandchildren: Zachary, Kawika, Kai, and Rei.  Larry loved his family and was in constant prayer for each of them.

Graveside services will be held for immediate family only at the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery on June 6th.  A memorial service open to friends and family will be held at Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church on Friday, June 10th at 7:00 pm and will be live-streamed at www.woodruffroad.com/webcast.

While his passing brings us grief and loss in this world, we rejoice in his homegoing, as we know upon that final day, all ‘sad things shall become untrue’ (Tolkien) for those that know Him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church.

Larry my dear friend and exLAPD partner, my heart beats a little slower today, missing our frequent phone call and hearing your voice dearly. What a run we had as 5Y33, being referred to as the Polecats by our fellow Organized Crime Intelligence Unit detectives and the Italian mob. Larry you made me a better Christian, husband and man of God. You made me want to read the Word of Our Lord and the so things you taught me about it.
Val, he loved you so and how we talked about how lucky he was that the Lord sent you to him, I can’t count the times he raved about being the luckiest man in the world. He loved and prayed for his sons daily, he was a proud father and husband. Farewell my dear friend and I know you’re having a blast in Heaven and talking things up with Our Heavenly Father, no pain and with an awesome new body. 5Y33b you are end of watch, 5y33a shall continue on patrolled.

Offer a Condolence
