Jesse Thomas “Tom” Wofford, Sr.

Jesse Thomas “Tom” Wofford, Sr., lovingly known as Papa Tom, age 85, of Fountain Inn, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, December 1, 2025. He was the devoted husband of Gladys Moore Wofford, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, strength, and unwavering commitment.

Born in Greenville, Tom was the son of the late Toy Lathan and Laura Godfrey Wofford. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, carrying with him a deep sense of honor and patriotism throughout his life.

Tom was, at his core, one of the kindest and most genuine souls a person could ever meet. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome, valued, and cared for — whether through his warm smile, his gentle humor, or the quiet compassion he showed in every part of his life. He never met a stranger, and his presence brought a sense of peace, joy, and light to those around him. Tom lived his life with humility, generosity, and a heart full of love, leaving everyone who knew him better for having been in his company. His character and goodness were felt deeply by all who crossed his path.

Tom lived a life centered around faith, family, and joy. He loved his family with his whole heart, and nothing made him happier than time spent surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had a special gift for making everyone feel loved. To his ten grandchildren and Sixteen great-grandchildren, and one Great great Grand daughter. he wasn’t just a grandfather — he was a playmate, a teacher, a jokester, and a constant source of laughter and comfort. Even as the grandkids grew older, he remained right there beside them, still one of the kids at heart.

He carried many passions, but two stood out above the rest. Tom was an avid Clemson fan, cheering on his beloved Tigers with excitement that could light up a room. Game days were a source of pure joy, and his energy made every win sweeter and every loss easier to bear. He was also a devoted coin collector, finding meaning and history in every piece he added to his treasured collection — a reflection of his thoughtful nature and love for the small moments that make life special.

In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his children: Jesse Thomas (Gwenn) Wofford, Jr., Michael Wayne Wofford, Kimberly Cooley, Kelley Bricco, Leigh (Avery) Craigo, and Jefferey Whitlock. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, and one Great Great Granddaughter, who will forever carry his legacy in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, one sister, and three brothers.

A funeral service honoring his life will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel at Cannon Byrd Funeral Home – Fountain Inn, located at 1150 N. Main St., Fountain Inn, SC 29644. Interment will follow in Cannon Byrd Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Papa Tom leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, faith, and kindness. His joyful spirit, his generous heart, and the countless memories he created will continue to uplift and guide those who loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
