Elizabeth “Betty” Martini
Elizabeth “Betty” Martini, 92, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025. She is survived by her son Jeffrey and his wife Barbara Shepard Martini of Fountain Inn, SC; younger brother Leslie Leach of Farmington, NM; and loved by numerous nieces & nephews across the country.
Betty was proud of her heritage, being a descendant of 8 Mayflower passengers, most notably Myles Standish. She also had ancestors that fought in the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and WW1.
Betty graduated Framingham Massachusetts State Teachers College in 1955.She met her husband of 64 years, Ralph C. Martini (deceased in 2020), on her first job out of college where he was in charge of quality control and inspecting her work. He often joked it was her beauty and troublesome workmanship that brought them together.
Betty started her teaching career in 1962 at Brockton High School as a Home Economics teacher. After moving to Pembroke in 1965, she taught at Silver Lake Regional Junior High. Then, at the age of 54, she decided to go back to college, this time at prestigious Cornell University and obtain her Masters, and then her Doctorate in Education. Betty subsequently returned to the Boston area and started her own Executive Career Counseling business for top-tier executives.
In 1993 Ralph & Betty moved to Idaho and eventually bought their “dream log home” in the mountains just outside the small town of Mackay, ID where they ran a B&B with spectacular views. Betty spent her free time in the local Quilting Club, crafting impressive, intricately designed quilts. She also became the organist for Saint Barbara’s Catholic Church.
After Ralph’s passing, Betty opted to move to Albuquerque to be near her relatives where she frequently found joy visiting her brother, nieces and nephews. In 2023, at 90, her son Jeff moved her to Simpsonville, SC so she could be near him and under his care.
She passed after a battle with Alzheimer’s but will always be remembered by many friends all over the country for her thoughtfulness, sense of humor, easy nature and generosity.
Her wishes are to be cremated and laid to rest with her husband Ralph at Borne National Cemetery.
