Dwight E. Pope

Dwight E. Pope, 82, of Greenville, SC, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024. Born in Burlington, NC, he was a son of the late Rainey and Eleanor Sykes Pope.

Dwight was a 1964 graduate of North Carolina State University with a Civil Engineering degree. He spent 38 years of his career working in Greenville. He was an excellent golfer and had a love for baseball, books, and beach music. His greatest joy, however, was the relationship he had with his three grandchildren.

Dwight is survived by his children, Jeffrey Pope (Becky) and Shawn Coleman (David); three grandchildren, Abby Parker Coleman, Granger Pope, and Griffin Pope; and ex-wife and friend, Janie Parker Pope, and two nephews; Jake Pope and Josh Pope.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Pope.

    Oh, what great memories. Dwight, Frank Fleming, Rob Steigerwald, and I would go play golf at the beach usually 4 times a year. The golf was great, but the fellowship was the best. We have all gone our separate ways, but those times will live in my memory forever. Godspeed Dwight. Rest in peace. Family, although we’ve never met, I am in mourning with you.

    I am so sorry to hear about Dwight’s passing. I really enjoyed getting to know him and it was a privilege to be his Wound Care provider. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. He will forever be in my memories.

    I’m sorry to hear about Dwight’s passing. I enjoyed our visits talking about his love for reading, his goal of reading 40+ books and the outdoor cats. It was a pleasure to be a part of his care team and as his palliative care NP.
