David Eugene Burgess

David E. Burgess, 73, of Simpsonville, husband of Patricia Jones Burgess, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 6, 2019.

Born in Rutherfordton, NC, he was a son of the late Carl Eugene Burgess and the late Ollie Shields Burgess. In addition to his beloved wife, Patsy, he is survived by their two daughters, Amanda Burgess Wren (Michael) of Columbia, and Caroline Burgess Dalton (Brendan) of Ipswich, MA; grandchildren, Samuel Sawyer Wren, Mary Prater Wren, Jacob Patrick Dalton, and Connor Shields Dalton; one brother, Dennis E. Burgess of NC; a sister, Patricia Clark (Don) of NC; a brother-in-law, Richard Lerch of NC; and uncles, Hayes Burgess of CA, and Vinson Burgess of NE. He was preceded in death by one brother, Randy Camp.

A proud 1970 graduate of the University of North Carolina, David was a true-blue Tar Heel fan. He served our country in the United States Air Force and worked in the banking industry for over forty-six years. David was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Fountain Inn where he taught Sunday School for over 30 years. He was a voracious reader, history buff, lifelong learner and patient teacher. His greatest love, however, was spending time with his family and friends. Grandfa adored his daughters, his special sons-in-law, and his precious grandchildren. He captured many of their most special times through his photography. He delighted in planning road trips over the years and some of his most treasured memories were with his family at Fripp Island. David courageously battled pancreatic cancer several years ago and was proudly in remission. He had the kindest heart, most generous spirit and was truly a blessing to all in his presence. David truly made an indelible impression on all the lives he touched.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 2:30 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church, Fountain Inn, SC with Pastors Perry D. Evatt and Laura Canine officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to: Trinity UMC or to The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Pancreatic Research, 1800 Orleans St, Baltimore, MD 21287. In lieu of sorrow, be grateful. Love one another and know that his was a life well-lived.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of The Springs for the wonderful care they provided David.

I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your dear husband. Even though the sting of death is hard to deal with right now for you and your family, the Bible gives each and every one of us the reassuring hope found at John 11:25, where Jesus promises us the resurrection which he talked about and demonstrated while he was on the earth. This scripture allows us to see that death is not permanent and that soon you will be able to see your beloved family member again. Even though David is asleep in death right now he is no longer suffering with cancer and when he wakes up he will be in perfect health, living on a fully cleansed Earth and waiting to welcome back family and friends with open arms. I hope these words provide you with comfort at this most difficult of times.

I cannot find the right words to express my love and respect that I always had for you throughout life. I never told you this but you were my inspiration for going to college and becoming the best person I could possibly be, thank you my beloved brother.

  • To the Family, so sorry for your loss. Hope you will be comforted in knowing that David has the prospect of being resurrected, healthy (in the flesh), to Paradise Earth just as Jehovah God has promised. In fact , the vast majority will enjoy everlasting life right here on earth as God had intended from the beginning. God’s Kingdom will do this under the rule of Jesus Christ.
