Alton Ray Fowler

Alton Ray Fowler, more lovingly known as “Papa Alton,” 90, of Conestee, SC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Born in Greenville, SC, he was a son of the late Foster and Olice Cisson Fowler.

You could always find Papa Alton on Lake Hartwell fishing, swimming, or just cruising on the pontoon or watching Nascar and country music videos. When he wasn’t at the lake, he was in Pigeon Forge, TN, at his other favorite place, Dollywood, with his two granddaughters.

Papa Alton always had a generous heart and would give anyone the shirt off his back, and it probably would have pictures of his granddaughters on it. His sense of humor, generosity, love for family, friendly smile, and caring spirit made him a friend to all. To know him was to love him. He will be greatly missed by all.

Alton is survived by his daughter, Latrale Guenther; stepson, Chad Bishop and his wife Melissa; two granddaughters, Natalie Rae Shuler and her husband Drew, and Madalyn Guenther; step-granddaughter, Lexi Bishop; great granddaughter, Virginia Lois Shuler (his favorite); a brother, Wilton Fowler and his wife Joan; a sister, Gail Griswold; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Bush and Cornelia Fowler.

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Cannon-Byrd Funeral Home- Simpsonville; 313 N. Main St, Simpsonville, SC 29681. A Memorial Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

The family would like to express gratitude to Nurse Marisha and the entire Amedisys Hospice Care Team for their great care and support during a difficult time.

Wilton, Latrale, Madalyn. Natalie, Chad, and the entire Fowler family. It is with a sad heart, to have learned of the passing of Mr. Fowler. Or as I have become to know him as PaPa. I have only know hi for a short time, but through Madalyn learned very much about how close she was to him.. Wilton has told me some of time when they were growing up. Theos things makes me feel very close friend with the family. I know the hurt the family is going through. I send my love to you all. I am sure that all who knew him will miss him. May GOD hold you close and comfort you during this time. Just knowing that you will join him again is a wonderful feeling in your heart. May GOD make smooth the path before you in the trying days ahead. RIP Mr. Alton

My brother was everybody’s friend but he never forced him self on anyone if he wasn’t with his daughter granddaughters and especially his great granddaughter he would just as soon be alone. His house and boat were always available for use and ski instructions were always free. He loop bed Dolly Wood and he/haw Tanya Tucker was a favorite. My brother was more than a brother he was my friend and strange as it may seen we looked up to one another he was mamas favorite and I don’t know who was her second probably me. Rest in peace Alton Ray Fowler I’ll be along shortly.
