Martha Jones Garrett
Martha Jones Garrett, 90, of Fountain Inn, SC entered eternal rest on February 1, 2016. She was the widow of Senator Charles G. Garrett. Born May 10, 1925, she grew up in Dacusville, SC, and was the daughter of the late Henry Z. and Inez S. Jones.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother who will be sorely missed by her family. She was predeceased by her daughter, Lucy G. Beckham, and is survived by her children, Sally Garrett Turner and Charles Glenn Garrett; grandchildren, Susan B. Antonelli (Michael), William G. Beckham (Katie), Jon G. Turner, and Martha Elizabeth Turner (Ian); great-grandchildren, Bella and Christopher Antonelli, Lucy Kate, William, and Shephard Beckham, and Theo and Livia Massey, and many special nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brothers Joe K. Jones and Emory V. Jones, sister Nancy Freeman, brother-in-law, Paul Gault, Sr. and sister-in-law, Thelma Jones. She was predeceased by her step-mother, Kathleen P. Jones, brothers Zed H. Jones and Dr. Champ M. Jones and sister, Rachel J. Gault.
As a graduate of Winthrop University, Martha was a dedicated high school math teacher for 30 years who taught primarily at Hillcrest High School. She was a faithful member of Fountain Inn Presbyterian Church and her Sunday school class and circle until her health prevented her from attending regularly.
Martha Garrett was a wonderful Southern lady who was known for her delicious cooking and kindness to others. She delighted in her family and friends. Her loving smile, sense of humor, and courageous spirit were positive examples to all who knew her. She enjoyed watching sports, especially Clemson football and basketball, and spending time with her bridge friends.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Franke at Seaside Assisted Living Community and Lutheran Hospice for their excellent care.
A private family graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 5, 2016, at Cannon Memorial Park in Fountain Inn, SC to be followed by a celebration of her life and homecoming in Heaven at 2:00 P.M. at the Fountain Inn Presbyterian Church, after which the family will receive visitors in the church’s Christian Fellowship Center from 3:00-5:00 P.M.
