William M. Kunkel

William Martin (Bill) Kunkel, age 70, of Simpsonville, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Emeritus of Greenville.

Bill leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Eileen Donna Hodges Kunkel and two sons; Mark (Carol) of Simpsonville, and Matthew (Rhonda) of Dayton Ohio; Four grandchildren, Mitchell (20) and Julianne (16) of Simpsonville, and Dylan (15) and Cory (12) of Dayton Ohio; one sister, Joyce Ann (Hartley) Fuller of Smyrna, NY; Sisters-in-law Irene (Richard) Humphrey; Carolyn (Gary) Dicer all of Simpsonville; Brother-in-law Bill (Josie) Hodges of Sherburne, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

He was born May 29, 1942 in Norwich, NY to the late Edward and Marion Riggle Kunkel. He graduated from Morrisville College and married the love of his life, Donna, in 1963. The couple settled in Syracuse, NY where Bill worked for AT&T for 28 years. After raising their family, Bill took an early retirement and moved to Simpsonville, SC to be near family and enjoy more than 20 days of sunshine per year.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Fountain Inn where he served as an usher and taught childrens’ Sunday School. Bill enjoyed sharing his talent and knowledge of electrical wiring with others and volunteered often on church initiatives.

A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Fountain Inn on Tuesday, October 23rd at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Social Hall.

A second Memorial Service will be held at Smyrna Baptist Church, Smyrna, NY at a date to be determined, with internment in the family plot in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne NY.
