Burial Vaults

A burial vault is a lined and sealed outer container that holds the casket. It shields the casket from the weight of the earth above and from heavy equipment passing over the grave, helps resist water, and keeps the ground from settling — preserving the beauty of the cemetery for years to come.

If it is not lined and sealed, it is not a burial vault. An unlined concrete box with drainage holes is a grave box. A true burial vault is built from high-strength concrete and reinforced with a metal or plastic liner, which is what gives it lasting protection.
