Tammy Boucounis, 63, of Simpsonville, widow of Thomas Boucounis, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 29, 2026

Born in Birmingham, AL, she was the daughter of the late Jack & Carol Burns.

Mrs. Boucounis is survived by her children, Kristin M. Adams (Christopher), Melissa L. Smoak (Zach Matthews), Erica S. Maclure (Jeremy), and Gabrielle A. Boucounis; grandchildren, Sawyer C. Adams, Keeley E. Adams, Bryson and Briggs Matthews; her first husband, Tim Smoak; and two siblings, Cyndi Hanna (Ross), and Brian Burns, Jr. (Denise).  

Tammy devoted 33 years to teaching in the public school system, a career that allowed her to share her love of learning and make a lasting difference in the lives of countless students. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Lander University and later obtained a Master’s + 30 in Elementary Reading and Mathematics. 

She was a gifted and creative artist who found joy in expressing herself through many different forms of art. She loved to read, travel, and spend time at the beach, and she had a special love for animals, especially hummingbirds. She also enjoyed collecting fairies, a reflection of her whimsical and imaginative nature. Above all, she treasured her family and the time they shared together. Her greatest joy was being with her four grandchildren, who brought a special happiness to her life. 

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 5:00 pm at Cannon Byrd Funeral Home – Simpsonville, 313 N. Main St., Simpsonville, SC 29681. Entombment in the Cannon Byrd Memorial Park Mausoleum will be private for the family. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home starting at 4:00 pm. Family and friends are encouraged to wear bright colors rather than traditional black. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to: The American Cancer Society or The Public Education Partners of Greenville County.
