Sidney A. (Sid) Brothers

Sidney A. (Sid) Brothers died February 8, 2014. He was born in Gadsden, AL on June 24, 1938. He was the son of the late W. D. and Inez Bickers Brothers. He was pre-deceased by his son Ricky Chandler and 2 grandsons Richard Chandler and Chance Brownlee, also by his brothers John Brothers, Dan Brothers, Sr. and W.J. “Bill” Brothers and sister Maud Reid.

Mr. Brothers graduated from Mount Berry School for Boys and attend Berry College in Rome, GA and Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA. He was employed by Badger Meter, Inc., Milwaukee, Wisconsin 1961 – 1983. In 1983 he formed Carolina Meter & Supply where he served as President until he sold the company in 1999. He served on the Alumni Council at the Boys School for many years. His Masonic career began in 1965 where he received his first degree at Simpsonville Lodge 311. He joined Hejaz Shrine in 1969, and was active in the Motor Corp and was a member of the Motorcycle Escort Unit until 2004. He was also a member of the Ragtop Unit and The Deuster Unit. Sid served as President of the Southeastern Association of Shrine Motor Corp and President of the International Association of Shrine Motor Corp. He served as Potentate of Hejaz Shrine in 2003. He is a member of the Royal Order of the Jester Court 158 and Organizer and Charter member of the Quetzacoatl. He is an Emeritus member of the Board of Governors for the Shrine Hospital for Children Greenville. He served on the Board of Governors for the Woodruff Shrine Club. He is a member of Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.
He is survived by his wife Betty Green Brothers and five children – Three girls – Marcia Brothers-Brownlee and Bill of Corpus Christi, TX, Jennifer Brothers-Fancher and Ron of Covington, GA and Jan Brothers-Stanley and Barry of Greenville, and two sons – Terry Chandler and Denise of Woodruff and Buddy Chandler of Simpsonville. Seven grandchildren Tatum Stanley, Brent Chandler, Jennifer Owens, Michael Chandler, Destiny Willis, Casey Edwards and Nathan Brownlee and 9 great grandchildren. Sister Dorothy Davidson and brother Clayton Brothers and Jane – numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Cannon Funeral Chapel, Fountain Inn. He will be laid to rest at Graceland East Memorial Park in Simpsonville immediately following the service.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Cannon Funeral Home, Fountain Inn.
In lieu of flowers – memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children – 950 West Faris Road – Greenville, SC 29605-4277
