Maisie Lorna Wade

Maisie Lorna Wade [nee Lewis] was born February 20, 1944 in St. Ann, Jamaica W.I. to Ethylind Louise and George W. Lewis. She attended primary & secondary school in Jamaica.  In June 1970, she married Fred Alton. They emigrated from Jamaica to New York, later settling the family on Long Island. As she  adapted to the U.S., she welcomed and hosted countless other relatives & friends who made the decision to relocate. Later retiring to Simpsonville, South Carolina, she still welcomed friends and family at every opportunity.

Maisie was passionate about her work in healthcare. Her dedication to the field set a desire to increase her professional capacity so, while working full-time and raising a family, she earned her associate degree from Suffolk County Community College. Her career as a claims administrator evolved to working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She continued studying to grow her nursing practice, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. Maisie dedicated herself to geriatric nursing, wanting to give the elderly much deserved compassion in their final years. She retired in 2006.

‘Maisie’, ‘Mommy’, ‘Grandma’, ‘Aunt Maisie’ or however she was known, was a genuine family matriarch. Her sayings [i.e., ‘cow neva know…] are fondly ingrained in our memories. Maisie was meticulous in every effort.  Her study, profession, and life demonstrated the values of persistence, diligence, and loyalty and is reflective of her children, family, and friends.

Maisie joined her husband, Fred, in eternity on May 28, 2023. Also preceding her in death are her son: Wayne Alton Wade and siblings: Hyacinth Lewis, Beverly Lindo, and Iva Brown. Left to cherish and carry on her memory are her children: Chris Brown, Dean, Steve, and Natalia Wade, Antoinette Taylor and Shauna Bracy, her spouse Andre. Stepchildren Maurice, his spouse Vigie, Carl Wade, and Judith Benjamin; Siblings: Norma Wilson, her spouse Sam and Fitz Lewis, his spouse Sonia. She was grandmother & great grandmother to countless children, a sister/mother-in-law and aunt to a host of nieces & nephews.

The sorrow of her loss in our lives is countered by the joy she’s found being reunited with the souls of family passed. She is with us always. In every tear, every heart, and every mind.
