Joyce Wheeler Banister

Joyce Banister, 77, of Simpsonville, wife of William Banister, died on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

Born in Needham, MA, she was a daughter of the late Harold & Marjorie Morse Wheeler.

Joyce lived a life defined by service to others and an unwavering devotion to the people she loved. As the youngest of seven children, she learned early on the value of family, resilience, and resourcefulness—qualities that guided her every day as a devoted mother of two and a proud grandmother of two.

She married a Southerner in uniform, building a life centered on home and loved ones. Even though she moved away from her brothers and sisters, she made sure to stay connected. Family always came first for Joyce.

Whenever challenges arose, she was practical and determined, always finding a way to make things happen for those who relied on her. Her frugality was never about going without; it was about ensuring her family had everything they needed and more.

Caring and supportive, Joyce naturally put others before herself. She dedicated countless hours to serving her community and supporting veterans, proudly standing as a Life Member of VFW Auxiliary 1845 and an active member of American Legion Post 271.

Those who knew her best will remember her bright mind and spirited nature. She had an insatiable curiosity, always reading to stay educated on any topic, and stayed sharp with a mind full of trivial knowledge. She loved playing all sorts of games with her family—from cards, to dominoes, to board games—and she was happiest sharing those moments around the table, always with a piece of chocolate close at hand.

Her warmth, intelligence, and selfless heart leave a lasting legacy for her children, grandchildren, and everyone whose life she touched.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Banister is survived by two daughters, Stacie Banister (Rob), and Kelly Kuhlhoff (Trent); two grandchildren, Kyle and Jordan Kuhlhoff; one brother, Sandy Wheeler (Dottie); two sisters, Judy Crossman and Merry Jennings; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Wheeler and Stevie Wheeler; and one sister, Donna King.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at Greenville Memorial Gardens on November 14, 2026 at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to a charity of your choice in her memory and to continue her legacy of giving back to others.
