James R. Pope
James Richard Pope, 89, of Simpsonville, SC, beloved husband of Nancy Pope for 65 years, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Born in Sand Mountain, Alabama, he was the son of the late James Oscar and Ella Mae Lamunyon Pope.

He began his professional career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation before opening a State Farm Insurance agency. He went on to serve his community in Maryland as a trusted State Farm agent for more than 45 years, building lasting relationships and helping generations of families protect what mattered most to them.
A member of Pelham Road Baptist Church, Jim was known for his steady character, strong work ethic, quiet wisdom, and deep devotion to his family. His greatest joy was spending time with those he loved, especially Nancy, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, Jim is survived by his son, Barry J. Pope (Colleen); five grandchildren, Kyle Pope (Riley), Kelsey Pope (Sean Madden), Ella Sherman (Hayes), Kyra Kahaleh (Carl), and Brady Fay (Maggie); three great-grandchildren, James Pope, Everett Fay, and Lee Kahaleh; and his son-in-law, Gerard Fay.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Lori Lee Fay, and his ten siblings.
Jim’s family finds comfort in knowing that his faith has become sight and that he is now at peace in the presence of his Savior, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him.
