James M. Ayers
James Michael “Mike” Ayers, 70, of Simpsonville, SC, husband of Cynthia C. Ayers, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. Born in Memphis, TN, he was the son of the late James Dennis “Ike” and Betty Englert Ayers.
In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Angeline Ayers; and three sisters, Mary A. Ayers, Jeanne M. Vinson, and Suzan F. Ayers, as well as four brothers in-law, six sisters in-law, and many beloved relatives across the Southeast.
Mike was an accomplished culinarian, having spent his career cooking, catering, and managing kitchens for various colleges and nursing homes. He had a servant’s heart and loved taking care of people, never hesitating to lend a helping hand. His hobbies included woodworking, gardening, surfing, reading, collecting classic rock albums, and cooking competition barbecue with his buddies. He loved to travel and found joy in meeting new people, effortlessly making friends in any situation. He was most at peace in nature, having spent many special summers with his grandparents near the Blue Ridge Mountains. In his retirement years, he found a passion for volunteer work and served with the Knights of Columbus as well as Greenville County Meals on Wheels.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 31st 2026 at 1:00 pm at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in downtown Greenville, SC.
