Gwen Mabry Donner

Gwen Mabry Donner, 96, of Simpsonville, peacefully left this life and entered into heaven on June 4, 2024.

She was the wife of the late Dr. Paul Donner.  They met while she was a Pediatric Nurse at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC.  They were married for 65 years. 

Gwen was the daughter of the late Harvey and Luda Mabry of Aquadale, NC.  She was preceded in death by her siblings Sybil Terry and Wayne Mabry and a grandson Brandon Dougan. 

Gwen is survived by her children, Mark Donner (June) and Robin Dillard (Bobby). She was known as “GwenMa” to her grandchildren, Jon Paul Phillips (Megan), Anna Maxwell (Jake), Dylan Dougan, Staci Koonce (Brock) and Brian Dillard (Katie); great grandchildren, Crawford Phillips, Porter Phillips and Mae Maxwell, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to spending time with her family, Gwen enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, entertaining and cooking, which was her true gift!  Many delicious meals were shared over the years at her dining room table with family and friends. 

A celebration of Gwen’s life will be on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, 1:30 p.m. at Cannon-Byrd Funeral Home, 1150 North Main Street, Fountain Inn with visitation following.  A private family graveside service will be held following the visitation.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the care of their mother over the past three years to NHC Mauldin. A special thank you to Jackie Tompkins and all the staff in Unit 1, and to Wren Hospice for their special care as well.

    Mrs Gwen was a delightful Southern Lady. I loved her almost immediately after we met. Robin is so much like her and just as
    precious. She’ll be missed by family and friends. She’s at peace after 96 years of a life of giving to others. It was an honor to know her. Blessings to the family

    My sincere condolences, love, hugs and prayers to the entire family of Ms. Gwen. A woman that reminded me so much of my late mother. Ms. Gwen would do or say something and I would say ok momma she would start cracking up 😄😄…I loved being her caregiver while she was living in her beautiful home in Simpsonville as well as the couple visits at NHC.
