Geoffrey Aaron Coons

Geoffrey “Geoff” Aaron Coons, 44, departed this life on February 12, 2024 to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven. Geoff’s life on earth will forever be remembered as a life of great courage, determination, persistence, discipline and love. Geoff inspired the lives of many as a devoted husband, father, son and cherished brother and friend.  Geoff’s life was rooted in faith and a reflection of love.

Geoff was born in Greensburg, PA on August 16, 1979 to Gerald and Karen Coons. He was a graduate of Orangeburg Wilkinson High School. In 2001, Geoff graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina with Honors from South Carolina Honors College with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

On May 18, 2002, Geoff married the love of his life, Jennifer Lin Weaver and together they wrote the greatest love story any person has ever witnessed. Their marriage is a true testimony of faith and a model of unconditional love. Together, Geoff and Jennifer raised three beautiful children: Addison Lin Coons, Mason Cooper Coons, and Evan Brice Coons. They knew that God entrusted them with the greatest gift of life. Therefore, they instilled love, faith, grace and wisdom in each child so that their lives could also be a reflection of Christ.

In addition to his loving wife, Jennifer, and three amazing children: Addi, Mason and Evan, Geoff is survived by his parents, Gerry and Karen Coons of Orangeburg, a brother, Chris (Shanna) Coons of Summerville, sisters, Megan (CJ) Johnson of Greenwood, Crystal (Rion) Bookhart of Cope, Brandi Coons of Orangeburg, and many special nieces and nephews.

Geoff invested wisely in the people he loved and always made time for them. Geoff could always be seen on the sidelines cheering for his children, along with their teammates, at various sporting events. He was always near the wrestling mat ready to offer his support and advice. Geoff enjoyed watching the people he loved pursue their own passions, and he was so incredibly proud of his children.

Geoff was the epitome of a warrior and fought cancer multiple times throughout his adult life. He was determined to not let his life be overshadowed by cancer. Instead, Geoff chose to overcome those challenges with living life to the fullest. His family would be the first to tell you that he never complained. He was so positive and always looked for ways to seek joy. He insisted on frequent date nights with his wife and dinners out with the whole family. Together, they scheduled family vacations and always enjoyed taking the kids to watch the Gamecocks play.

Geoff’s legacy of discipline, truth, courage, persistence and love will live on through Jennifer and their children. May Geoff’s life of love and faith forever be etched in our hearts and echoed so that others may see the reflection of Christ.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Cannon-Byrd Funeral Home at 313 N. Main St Simpsonville, SC 29681. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 11:00 am at Messiah Lutheran Church with a brief visitation beginning at 10:00 am, 1100 Log Shoals Rd Mauldin, SC 29662, with burial following at Cannon-Byrd Memorial Park 1150 N. Main St Fountain Inn, SC 29644.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Geoff’s honor to Messiah Lutheran Church and blood donations are encouraged as Geoff was an advocate of The Blood Connection.

No one will ever understand why things happen to such amazing people. It doesn’t seem fair. Then you realize that everything that made you all so loving, caring, passionate, strong beyond belief people, is the love you have for each other. Every stupid battle with cancer, each family vacation, all those sporting events, arguments over studying, neighborhood parties that last all night, etc. – you faced together as a family. That time together no one can take away and will continue to serve as your strength as together you will face the hard road ahead till you see the light again where he will guide you.

Jennifer, that is the most beautiful and fitting obituary I have ever read. Please know your Saint Paul’s family is there with you in spirit, love and support. I will always remember your beautiful family sitting in church together and helping with projects such as the parsonage. I value the time I had with Geoff on the church council. Love and prayers to you, Susan

I’ve always said I have so much admiration for the Grace you and Geoff and your entire family modeled through the challenges thrown your way. I’m especially grateful for the opportunity to get to know him through our blood drive and the powerful impact he had. I remember his words that “my life is an open book” regarding his willingness to share the story of his battle with cancer and his experiences with receiving the gift of blood countless times to encourage others to donate. He was and will always be a remarkable inspiration!

Geoff will always be remembered as a special person. My family has known him since the first grade and words can not express what he means to us. I still remember the time we went to Huntsville, Alabama to visit the space center. God has gained a special angel. Thoughts and prayers to your family.
