Fred A. Wade

Fred Alton Wade, 86, of Simpsonville, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021.

Fred was born February 15, 1935 in St. Thomas, Jamaica W.I. to Tamar Barnett & Henry Wade. He attended primary & secondary school in Jamaica then pursued a career with the Jamaican Constabulary Force, serving as a Police Officer in Kingston for more than a decade.  In June 1970, he married Maisie Lewis. They emigrated from Jamaica to New York, later settling the family on Long Island. He continued to work in private security until his retirement in 2006.

‘Fred’, ‘Daddy’, ‘Uncle Freddy’, ‘Grandpa’, ‘Daddy-Grandpa’, however he was known to you, he will be unforgettable. Fred had a work ethic that was unmatched, often holding multiple jobs to ensure the life and livelihood of his family. His life was so much greater than work. Everyone who came to know Fred grew to love and long for his cooking. Cheesecakes, pancakes on Sunday mornings, or back-home favorites; like stew peas or curried goat. Fred proudly boasted serving upwards of 25 people for holiday meals- no one would ever walk away hungry. He & Maisie also held a deep pride in their home & property, with it often serving as the focus for family functions.

Fred & Maisie were together for a ½ century, giving life to multiple generations. He was unfortunately preceded in death by his son, Wayne Alton Wade- and siblings, Wansugga Walker, Joyce Allen,  Eli and William Wade. Father to ten children: Maurice, his spouse Vigie, Carl, Steve & Dean Wade; Chris Brown, Judith Benjamin, Natalia Wade, Antoinette Taylor and Shauna Bracy, her spouse Andre. Fred’s sole surviving sister is Gloria Fairweather. He was grandfather & great grandfather to countless children; also a brother/father -in-law and uncle to a host of nieces & nephews.

A lifetime with him, that enriched the lives of all that knew him, makes life without him unimaginable. May he live on in each of us, and we are privileged to have the opportunity to carry on his traditions, spirit, and character.
