Edna Thomason Rouse

Mrs. Rouse, 97, of Fountain Inn, SC, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Sharon Towers in Charlotte, NC. She was born August 24, 1912, in Fountain Inn, SC, a daughter of the late Dr. James Archibald Thomason and Estrade Armstrong Thomason. She was a graduate of Winthrop College with a degree in music. After graduation, she received two years of organ instruction from Greenville Women’s College. For more than 75 years she played the piano for Fountain Inn Presbyterian Church retiring at 91 years of age. During much of that time she also taught private piano lessons to many of the children in Fountain Inn.

Mrs. Rouse was an honorary life member of the Greenville Woman’s Music Club and was a charter member of Fountain Inn Presbyterian Church where she served as Pianist Emeritus. She was honored by her church in 2004 for her faithfulness and service with the establishment of a scholarship in her name to be given by the Fountain Inn Music Club to musically gifted students. Also the future music wing of the church will carry her name.

Mrs. Rouse was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Boyd Rouse, her brothers, Dr. Eugene Archibald Thomason and Dr. James Robert Thomason, and her son, James Richard Rouse.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Rouse Barnett and her husband Robert Alton Barnett, and her grandson, Brandon Halley Brown and his wife Sara Coughlin Brown, all of Charlotte, NC.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:30 to 7:30 PM at Cannon Memorial Park, 1150 North Main Street, Fountain Inn, SC. A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Rouse’s life will be held at 2:30 PM, Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Fountain Inn Presbyterian Church, 307 North Main Street, Fountain Inn, SC, with Doctor Steve Mays officiating. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Cannon Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fountain Inn Presbyterian Church, 307 North Main Street, Fountain Inn, SC, 29644; or Fairview Presbyterian Church, 126 Fairview Church Road, Fountain Inn, SC, 29644.
