Edna Earl Mayo Heath

Edna joined her beloved Roy and her Lord and Savior, Jesus on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.  She was born on March 15, 1935, to Edna Mae Reynolds Mayo and Earl Mayo in Palacios, Texas, but spent most of her youth in Houston, Texas.

Her mother was killed in an auto accident when Edna was only 8 months old and she was reared by her grandmother, Mary Powell Reynolds and her maiden aunt, Loretta.  During the war she lived with them, her grandfather, her Aunt Iva Reynolds Glaze and her cousin Elbert Reynolds Glaze in a small apartment, while Elbert’s father and her Uncle Dutch were fighting for our country.

Edna attended San Jacinto High School and was a proud member of their prestigious drill team.  It was some time after her graduation that she met Roy Calvin Heath, the love of her life, and they married in 1957.  They were each other’s best friend until his death in 2015.

Roy’s job moved them throughout the United States and multiple countries, including, England, Scotland, Saudi, Chile, Trinidad, and Libya.  Even after those overseas adventures they were avid travelers.  But her happiest times were those spent at their lovely home in Simpsonville, SC, where she always welcomed visitors with open arms and a good hot meal.

Edna was a devout Christian and always encouraged others to know Jesus.  She could “walk with kings and paupers” and treated everyone equally.

Edna is survived by her cousin, Elbert (Bert) Glaze and his wife Judy; and extended family, Charles, John (Kim), and their children, Lauren and Caroline Glaze and Sam Clinch and Dr. Caroline Clinch; Christopher Glaze and wife Mara; Harry Herzog and wife Donna; David Heath and wife Maxine; Martha Pettinato, whom she considered the daughter she never had; and her cat, Jill.
