Dorothy Lee Billings Putnam

Dorothy Lee Billings Putnam went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 13, 2018. She is now at peace with her family who went before her. Our family was always excited to have dinner at Granny’s and surely our Dad has been waiting for her to cook a meal in Heaven. His wish is granted.

Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Putnam, Sr., and a son, Ronald Alan Putnam. She was also predeceased by a sister, Joyce Hodge and a brother, Ed Billings. She was born February 16, 1936, in Anderson County to James Hammond Billings and Mary Frances Dickson Billings. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church since moving to Fairview Road in 1964. We will always have the memories of our mother gathering us up on Sunday to walk to church.

Granny is survived by her children and their spouses: Linda Putnam Mitchell (Phillip), Carl Louis Putnam, Jr., (Courtney), William Kenneth Putnam (Julia), and James Gregory Putnam (Mitzie). She leaves behind thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, the most recent being born October 4, 2018. She loved babies, and we have all enjoyed having her love our children. Even though she was blessed with so many grand and great grand children she still was “My” Granny to her little loved ones.

As a supervisor at Just Kids (formerly Her Majesty), she took pride in her work and was always pleasant with her coworkers. We were thankful for her getting up early and making homemade biscuits for the family before she left for work.

Dot loved reading and enjoyed using her iPad to keep up with her family and friends. Technology became the gift that connected her day to day to her many “children”.

We were blessed to have her with us and are prayerfully thankful that she is at Home with her Lord and Savior.

A Celebration of the Life of Dorothy will be held at Unity Baptist Church on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. The family will visit with friends and family following the service.
Memorials and flowers may be sent to Unity Baptist Church.
