David Lewis Cox

David Lewis Cox, 88, husband of Martha Bishop Cox, of Simpsonville, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.  Born in High Shoals, NC, David was a son of the late David Durant Cox and Lois Cox McCue.

After serving in the Army, David went to work for the US Post Office.  David was always helpful to people along his route.  He helped stranded motorists, took food to families, and in one case would wake and help a man start his day by bringing in his newspaper and making his coffee.  David was a long-time member of First Baptist Simpsonville and enjoyed volunteering in the church and visiting inmates at Perry Correctional.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by two biological grandchildren, Anthony and Lee Hancock; three sons, Bobby (Mariea) Bishop, Jimmy Bishop, and Tony (Tammy) Bishop; six grandchildren, Jimmy, Michael, Zachary (Becca), Ryan, Charlie, and Jamie; and two great grandchildren, Theo and Amelia.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded death by his son, Tony Hancock.

The family will visit with friends on Monday, October 23, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Simpsonville from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm.  A Funeral service will follow beginning at 2:00 pm.

David will be laid to rest at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veteran Cemetery in Anderson on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 1:00 pm.

The family is thankful for the great care David’s caregivers provided; Dorris, Donna, Jason, and Brooke.
