David Howard Werlau Cummings

David approached life with a quiet demeanor, facing daily life with commitment to everything he did. He enjoyed woodworking and loved to play the guitar and harmonica. He was faithful to his job of 32 years and highly respected at IVC Corp. (formerly GNC) on Woodruff Road in Greenville.
He excelled in everything he did and always strived for perfection
David loved to be home and on weekends always busy caring for the home, spending time with family or hunting during deer season.
He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor right ‘til the very end and during this devastating battle with ALS, he never made a complaint of the disease that slowly and methodically took away the ability to control voluntary muscle movement that led to his paralysis and respiratory failure.

After the death of his parents, he was adopted by Joseph and Kathleen Cummings.
He is predeceased by both sets of parents, sisters Marcella Moore, Mardele Bonaire and Linda Cummings, and brothers Robert Werlau and George Werlau.

Heaven gained a very sweet man. So glad to have met him at Ana and Ryan’s wedding!!
I’m sorry, we are unable to travel that far. Dave was an exceptional Christian man! I don’t know how to otherwise show my respect for him. Let me know if I could make a donation to something he cared for. All our love to all of you. Terry & Cathy
Thank you, Uncle Terry & Aunt Cathy, that means so much. We love you

Thank you brother. I hate it that we are in a place that neither one of us could travel when something happens. It makes it very hard. The older I get a more valuable family as. Thank you for your comments and care.
David was my hero. I worked with him at IVC for many years. He was the one l would always go to whenever I was having trouble getting a product to run. He was very patient and easy to get along with and he always seemed to have the answer to every product issue. He made my job so much easier. We had a mutual respect for each other and enjoyed each other’s company. Dave was an amazing man.
Thank you, Will. My daddy was an amazing man. Thank you for your kind words.

I had the pleasure and honor of working with Dave and I will always remember his kindness he always showed towards me. I will miss seeing him walk the parking lot (speeding past me).

Thank you so much, Bridgette He definitely will be missed and I know that he appreciated those. He worked with and stayed loyal to his job for many years actually almost 33. Even through all the changes there he stuck with it. Appreciate you taking time to share.
Mr. Dave Cummings was far more than a mentor and teacher to me throughout my years at GNC and later IVC—he was one of the most influential figures in my professional and personal development. Much of the man I am today and the career I have built can be traced back to his guidance, wisdom, and example.
Mr. Dave taught me that success is not defined by titles or degrees, but by experience, dedication, and a willingness to do the work that others may shy away from. He believed in leading by example, rolling up your sleeves, and never asking others to do something you would not do yourself.
Among the many lessons he shared, one always stood out: “Before you do anything, always start with a fresh pot of coffee.” It was a simple rule, but it reflected his practical nature and his belief that every day should begin with preparation and purpose.
Although Mr.Dave is no longer with us, his influence, lessons, and legacy will continue to live on through the many people he mentored and inspired.
He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.
My heart is just so encouraged and overwhelmed by your amazing words. Thank you for sharing how he impacted your life. This means so much.
I have tears in my eyes reading this. He was loyal to his job for sure sometimes wishing he was here with me instead, but I totally understood how he accomplished things in his life by being dedicated. Thank you for taking time to share and I hope some of you will be able to come and share our special time of celebration of life on Monday.
My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time, Jeanette.

Dave was more than a co-worker at Nutra/IVC. He was an inspiration to me. Whether it was passing in the hall or on the job, I always left a conversation with him feeling better. My condolences to you on the loss of a great man.
My prayers to the family in the loss of a great man. Dave was a co-worker from Nutra/IVC days. His sense of humor and quick wit always made the days fun. He was a hard worker and made you want to work just as hard.
Thankful for the chance to know him. He will be missed but know he is in a much better place.
I worked with Dave at Nutra/IVC. When I was tasked taking on a new department that I wasn’t as familiar with, Dave was an integral part of teaching me and making me feel comfortable. I could never ask him a “dumb” question, although I felt I asked him many. I always appreciated his knowledge, wisdom, and willingness to help. He was very much loved and respected within the company and will truly be missed. Sending my love, condolences, and prayers to his family.
We have learned so much about his work ethics through these testimonies. He was a humble man for sure. Thank you for sharing your thoughts
