Carolyn P. Lindow
Carolyn Popp Lindow entered eternal life on November 22, 2024, at the age of 81 in Greenville, South Carolina. Born on February 11th, 1943, in Highland Park, MI, Carolyn was a daughter of the late John and Minerva Burz Popp.
Carolyn was the oldest of 3 girls. As a child she grew up in Highland Park and Royal Oak, Michigan. She enjoyed playing street baseball, roller skating, playing the piano and helping to take care of her baby sister. She attended Oakland Elementary School and St. Mary’s High School in Royal Oak. She graduated from the University of Detroit in 1967 and was a member of Theta Phi Alpha Sorority. In her senior year, Carolyn was selected as the first ever Mardi Gras Queen (equivalent to being Homecoming Queen) in schools’ history. There in Calihan Hall she was crowned queen by the famous musician Louis Armstrong and even received a kiss from him. After she graduated, Carolyn taught history at Dondero High School in Royal Oak. She left teaching for the banking world and worked at Bank of the Commonwealth for 3 years. Her love for travel eventually led her to a career in the travel industry. She owned her own travel agency in Troy, Michigan called the Travel Shop. Her love of travel was fostered by her parents who loved to travel and took their daughters on many beautiful and exciting trips. Carolyn had dedicated and loyal clients from all over the country that worked with her for many years. She continued to work as a travel agent until the day she passed away.
She married Walt Lindow in 1980. Walt had 2 children from his first marriage, David and Dayna Lindow. They lived in Rochester Hills, St. Clair Shores and then Troy Michigan. In 1995, they relocated to Akron Ohio where she began to work for Chima Travel agency. Walt and Carolyn moved to Salem, South Carolina and then eventually relocated to Simpsonville to be close to their daughter and son. Carolyn was active in the Young Republicans as a young adult and had maintained a lifelong passion for politics her whole life. She volunteered to be a poll worker for over 20 years and worked in the polls for the last Presidential election. She was passionate about Jesus and attended many Bible studies as she became closer to the Lord. Carolyn was always full of laughter and loved to be social with everyone she met.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching the Detroit Lions, and loved to dance “the twist”. The last few years she traveled with her sisters, Violet and Patty to Tucson Arizona and Sanibel Island Florida, where there was much conversation about how blessed they were to have lived such a good life due to the generosity of their wonderful parents. She also traveled extensively with her husband Walt. In fact, they both just got back from a beautiful European river cruise. Carolyn will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Lindow, of forty-four years and her two children Johnathan Lindow (Sandra) and Jennifer (Matt) Dougherty. She is also survived by her 2 sisters Violet (Phil) Vestevich and Patty Raezler and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Although I did not have the opportunity to know Carolyn for long I could see what an interesting and unique person she is. She and Walt are a dynamic couple who have made a difference in the lives they touch. Carolyn will be missed.
