Thomas Lafayette Rogers, Jr.
Thomas L. Rogers, Jr., LTC. US Army retired, 75, of Simpsonville passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. He was the husband of Evelyn Phillips Rogers. Born in Savannah Ga. he was the son of the late Thomas Lafayette Rogers Sr. and the late Ruby Rogers. He was raised by Jerry and Ruth Rogers.
Thomas was retired from the United States Army after 28 years and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Thomas was a graduate of Clemson University where he played football. He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army in June of 1960. He retired as a Lt. Col. He also was a member of the VFW, MOAA, The America Legion, and AmVet.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son Michael Rogers and wife Tamara of NC; three daughters, Deborah Rogers of Anderson, Teresa Freeman and husband Phillip of Simpsonville, Tracy Leigh and husband Bryan of NC.; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry Rogers and wife, Bonita and Bruce Rogers and wife, Linda. He was preceded in death by one son, Scotty Woodhurst.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 19, 2013, from 10:00 – 11:30 am at Temple Baptist Church in Simpsonville. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 12:00 noon at the Church. Burial will follow at Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
