Ruth Herbert
Lola “Ruth” Herbert of NHC-Mauldin died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the age of 93. She was born April 3, 1920 in Nortonville, Kansas. Her parents were the late John “Herbert” Corkill and Myrtle Ruth(Nichols) Corkill. Predeceased are brothers, David of Nebraska, Eldon of Texas, and John of Arizona and her twin sister, Lily Rose who died at birth.
She attended Kansas University where she met and married Harold Herbert in 1941 in Portsmouth, Va. Together they celebrated 70 years of marriage. He preceded her in death June, 2011.
She was an active member of Mauldin United Methodist church, Faithful Followers Sunday School class and Martha’s Circle. Ruth loved spending time with her family and enjoyed playing games and cards. She was a kind, sweet and gentle person always willing to please and be helpful.
Surviving are her three children, Donald(Jan)Herbert of Fostoria, Ohio, David(Lois)Herbert of Simpsonville and Diane Campbell of Simpsonville. She leaves behind six grandchildren, Jeffrey(Lisa) and Marc Herbert, Kathy(Glenn)Gram, Julie Graber, Angie(Ken)Wilson, Tracy(Rob)Kanaczet. Also, eight great grandchildren, Quinton and Morgan Graber, Lindsey Gram, Clayton and Collin Wilson, Gavin and Presley Kanaczet and Mia Herbert. Also, surviving is a sister, Ann Jones of Texas.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00pm on Sunday, December 22, 2013. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 pm until 3:00pm at the Mauldin United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the entire staff at The Palmettos(Dunes) for their care, kindness and friendship. Additionally, a heartfelt thank you from the family for the exceptional care our mother received in her final days from the Special Care Unit of NHC-Mauldin and to Caris Healthcare.
