Raymond Harold Box

Raymond Harold Box, of Simpsonville, widower of the late Janet Maus Box, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 29, 2023, at his young, old age of 89, surrounded by his children.

Born March of 1934 in Wantagh, N.Y., he was a son of the late Russell V. Box and Lillian M. Siems Box.

He is survived by his children, Robin Klopfer (Peter) of Flanders, N.Y., Wendy King (Dean), of Voorheesville, N.Y., and Russell Box of Simpsonville, S.C.; grandchildren, David King (Alicia), Colleen Anderson (Michael), Shawn Klopfer (Amanda); great grandchildren, Makayla King, Ashlee King and Josiah King; a grandson-in law Willie Cox; and a sister Doris Schoepf.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Rebecca King Cox, and siblings, Gloria Perroto, Ruth Sparke, Mary Ryan, Herbert Box and Floie Box.

A Graveside Service for the family will be held on December 4, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Greenville Memorial Gardens in Piedmont, S.C.  The service will be officiated by Chaplain Deon Louw (Hospice of the Upstate).

Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to many.

He was always willing to show his kindness, his love, his expertise of “fixing all broken things”, and if you were ready, willing to give you one of his many bear hugs.

He was raised on a farm in Wantagh, Long Island with his 5 sisters and 1 brother and worked at his brother-in laws turkey and chicken farm for many years. He was a woodworker, cabinetmaker by trade Custom Crafted Wood Work by RAY, and he served in the Army (Korea) as an aircraft mechanic and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.

He moved to South Carolina in the late 90’s, near his brother Herbert and wife Elaine, and built (designed) his home there with his wife Janet and son Russell. He loved the outdoors and this land he called home; both became a peaceful place for his family and the animals that lived there too.

Ray will be missed by many, but never forgotten.

We are so thankful and grateful for Hospice of the Upstate Caregivers Lisa, Devon, Chloe, Chaplain Deon, Robin and their staff for all their love and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorials, donations can be made to Hospice of the Upstate, Inc. Dementia Care; 1835 Rogers Rd, Anderson, SC 29621.

May the beauty of his life shine in your hearts always. Think back on happy times and speak of him often. Love is stronger than death.

  • To the Family and loved ones of Uncle Ray,

My condolences and love to all. Uncle Ray was one of the kindest and humblest men i’ve ever known. My regret is never getting to South Carolina to see his “happy place” . I get to think of Ray every time i walk through my kitchen because he built it for us some years ago. He was a master craftsman and even more a master person. God Bless, John Adams & Family
