Muriel Pinckney Richards
Muriel Pinckney Richards, 84, of 1560 Thornblade Blvd, Greer, died Friday, September 3, 2010 at her residence.
Born in Brewster, NY, she was the daughter of the late Remington and Rena Furness Pinckney, Sr.
Muriel had an ancestry to the Scottish throne and was a direct descendant of Mary Chilton, considered to be the first immigrant to set foot on Plymouth Rock.
She graduated from Brewster High School in June of 1944, after which she began an early career in office administration. She wed Kenneth L. Richards on June 22, 1947 and dedicated her life to raising her family and supporting her husband’s career in education. Her marriage lasted 63 years, and they had residences in Nanuet, NY and Gloversville, NY and finally in Greer, SC. They spent their winters in Venice, FL for the last 30 years.
Surviving are her four sons, Lee F. Richards of Schuylerville, NY, Barry A. Richards of Essex, MA, Randall K. Richards of Lake Placid, NY, and Bradley H. Richards of Simpsonville, SC; two brothers Earl Pinckney of Quarryville, PA and LaFayette Pinckney of Concord, NH ; four grandchildren, Dr. Bradley G. Richards, Erik L.Richards, Ian M. Richards, and Kaylin J. Richards; She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth L. Richards on July 3rd of this year; her sister Frances Ward and two brothers, La Verne Pinckney and Remington Pinckney, Jr.
The funeral service will be held at Foothills United Methodist Church, 17 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY on September 11 at 10AM where she had been a member for 40 years. Memorial flowers may be sent directly to the church prior to the service.
