Michael L. Newman

Michael L. (Mike) Newman, 74, of Rock Hill, previously of Simpsonville, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

Born September 14, 1950, in Kenton, OH, he was a son of Wilbur and Carol Newman. He was preceded in death by his father. Mike is survived by his mother, his son, Kevin (Wanda) Newman; grandchildren, Julia Newman and Carter Newman; brothers, Mark Newman and Milan (Tammy) Newman; sister, Joy (Darrell) Miller and his nieces and nephews.

Mike attended Indian Lake High School and graduated in 1968 from Sidney High School. After graduation he joined the United States Army serving over eight years. His overseas tours of duty included Vietnam, Thailand, and Okinawa. During his military career, Mike earned several awards including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 4 Campaign stars, 2 Good Conduct Medals, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star, 2 Meritus Unit Citations, and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry (Unit).

After his military service Mike spent many years in the Financial Services/Mortgage Industry serving in different capacities. During his last two years, he dedicated his time enjoying and supporting his grandchildren in diverse sports and school events. He enjoyed being a grandpa!

Burial services will be held at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 17, 2025, 140 Inway Drive, Anderson, SC 29621.

    I was so sorry to hear about Mike’s passing. He was such a great guy. So glad he got to visit Greenville a couple of years ago!

    I remember Mike and his family when they lived down in Huntsville Ohio. My sister and older brother went to school with his sister Joy and brother Mark. Mike was always nice to us Shaner kids way back in the 60’s. RIP
