Mary Edwards Erwin Smith
Mary Edwards Erwin Smith, 85, wife of the late Arthur Malcolm “Mike” Erwin and Carl Smith, passed away peacefully at her home in Greenville on June 7, 2022. Born July 30, 1936 in Fountain Inn, Mary was the daughter of the late Ralph Richards Edwards and the late Nancy “Nan” Usher Edwards. She is survived by her children Rick Erwin (Maria) of Greenville and Rebecca Erwin Venable (Darren Lewis) of Mt. Airy, NC; three grandsons, Justin Webb, Andrew Webb and Richard Webb of North Carolina; two sisters, Nancy Thomason and Martha West, of Greenville. She was preceded in death by their brother, Ralph Richard “Rich” Edwards.
In 1980, Mary joined Carl Smith’s New York Life Agency serving his clients as a skilled administrator in Greenville and Greer.
Mary was an avid Clemson “Tiger” fan and sports enthusiast. While visiting Mary, you were sure to see the best game of the weekend.
The family would like to offer their deep gratitude to Jean Simmons, Mary’s best friend of 14 years and incredible caregiver. The family also would like to thank Bobbie Harper and her amazing staff at Passionate Caregivers.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022 from 11:30 am – 12:45 pm at Cannon – Byrd Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow in Cannon – Byrd Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the charity of one’s choice to make a difference in our community.
