Martha Ann Vaughn
Martha Ann Vaughn, 77, of Greenville, died Tuesday, June 14, 2016.
Born February 14, 1939, she was the only child of the late James (Chick) Vaughn and the late Agnes Norris Vaughn. Ms. Vaughn was a member of First Baptist Church Greenville where she sang in the choir. She was a graduate of Parris High School.
Her love of the arts, and all things beautiful, led her to many years of service in the Greenville Chorale. Martha was a founding member of the Chorale, she sang in the Chorale and was its President. Later she became President of its Board of Directors. The Chorale further honored Martha by appointing her as a lifetime member of its Board. The Chorale’s Fall Concert will be dedicated to Martha in appreciation of her many years of work to garner support and enthusiasm for the Chorale.
Martha also served as one of five members of the South Carolina Arts Commission.
For many years she was employed by the Gulf Oil Co. in Greenville, SC and Houston, TX. Upon returning to Greenville, she was employed for a short time with J. E. Sirrine Engineers before joining Furman University’s Education Department in early 1990 and retiring in 2002.
Martha is survived by cousins Janet Turner Farr of Mooresville, NC., James C. Turner of McLean, VA., William N. Turner of Dunedin, FL. and Gladys Norris Moon of Indianapolis, IN.; and best friends, Al and Sarah Drake of Simpsonville, Carole Mason of Spring Hill, FL., Adele Freeman of Greenville, SC and Trudy Harrison of Columbia, SC.
A memorial service and inurnment will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at 2:00 PM in Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1901 Wade Hampton Blvd, Greenville, SC 29615.
