Joyce Kellett Cook
Joyce Kellett Cook, 87, of 101 South Weston Street, Fountain Inn, South Carolina, passed away at Hillcrest Hospital on Wednesday, November 10, 2010.
Born September 4, 1923 in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, Mrs. Cook was the daughter of the late J.P. “Bub” Kellett, Jr. and Rene Joyce “Mammy” Kellett. She was predeceased by her husband, James Weldon Cook. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Fountain Inn. Mrs. Cook graduated from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina in 1944. She taught voice and served as the Choir Director at her church for many years. Mrs. Cook was a life member of the Fountain Inn Music Club.
A life-long resident of Fountain Inn, Mrs. Cook loved music, golf, and playing bridge. She and her husband, Jimmy, of 60 years, enjoyed ballroom dancing and were members of the Lamplighters Club.
Surviving Mrs. Cook are her son, J. Weldon Cook II, and his wife, Ginn, of Fountain Inn; a daughter, Rene C. Chandler, and Ken Lain of Aiken; two grandchildren, Zonnie “Zeke” Jones IV and Tammie Capps of Travelers Rest, and Casey Edwards and her husband, Stephen of Fountain Inn; and three great grandchildren, Brittany Joy Burroughs, Kayla Brooke Edwards and Tyler Capps.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Richard Alvis Chandler, Jr.
The family will receive friends today, November 11, 2010 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Cannon Funeral Home in Fountain Inn.
A memorial service will be held Friday, November 12, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. David Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Cannon Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 403 S. Weston Street, Fountain Inn, SC.
